Chowan Rallies but Falls to Trojans in Night Game

MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University men's lacrosse team squared off against the University of Mount Olive on Wednesday evening in a tightly contested matchup on Wednesday evening. Four different Hawks found the back of the net, while six players recorded points on the night.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Mount Olive opened the contest with three goals in the first quarter and added another midway through the second before the Hawks found their rhythm. Chowan responded with a pair of goals late in the second quarter and carried that momentum into the third. The Hawks struck first in the second half, adding three more goals before the break, trailing 8-7 heading into halftime. The Trojans pulled away in the final quarter, with the Hawks adding one last goal in the final 90 seconds to close out the scoring.

Todd Egan connected with Reed Low for back-to-back goals at the 4:21 and 3:27 marks of the second quarter to get the Hawks on the board. Justin Hill followed with a pair of unassisted goals at the 9:27 and 6:05 marks in the third quarter. Hill later linked up with Low for another score at the 1:42 mark. Treston Gatewood notched a goal with 55 seconds remaining in the third off an assist from Owen Williams. Thomas Rohal added the final goal for Chowan with 1:25 left in the fourth quarter.

Low led the offensive effort with four goals on eight shots on goal, while adding a ground ball and a caused turnover. Hill totaled four points with two goals and two assists, along with three ground balls and four caused turnovers. Egan contributed two assists, four shots on goal, and a ground ball. Rohal and Gatewood each added a goal, while Williams recorded an assist.

Defensively, Harry Edwards paced the Hawks with eight ground balls and four caused turnovers. Reagan Corley added two ground balls and a caused turnover, while Michael Litchfield tallied two ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Rocco Smith got the start in goal, recording 15 saves, while Ja'Michael Stewart entered in the fourth quarter to finish out the contest.
