Hawks Drop Conference Matchup to Belmont Abbey at Home

MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University men's lacrosse team hosted Belmont Abbey College for a conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. Three different Hawks found the back of the net in the contest while six players collected points on the day. Chowan opened the first quarter with a goal and added three more in the third quarter.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Seth MacKenzie made a big play at the 8:18 mark in the first quarter, breaking up a clear attempt by the Crusaders. MacKenzie collected the ball and quickly moved it ahead to Reed Low, who was in front of the goal and fired it in for the Hawks' first goal of the afternoon.

The Hawks' next goals came in the third quarter as Rocco Smith kept the Crusaders off the scoreboard with four consecutive saves, giving Chowan an opportunity to strike first. At the 9:23 mark, Thomas Rohal worked his way to the goal and finished unassisted. Reed Low later recorded his second goal of the contest at the 5:37 mark after receiving a pass from Todd Egan. The Hawks' final goal of the day came from Justin Hill, who scored off a pass from Julian Wolfe.

Low led the Hawks with two points, placing four of his seven shots on goal. Hill finished with a point after recording two shots, while Rohal added a point along with a ground ball and three shots. Egan collected a point while also attempting a shot, causing a turnover, and securing a ground ball. Wolfe added a point, while Isaiah Gill recorded a shot, a ground ball, and a caused turnover. MacKenzie finished with an assist along with a shot, four ground balls, and a caused turnover.

Harry Edwards led the Hawks with a game-high five ground balls to go along with a caused turnover, while Calvin Evans and Patrick Hoff each collected three ground balls.

Tyler Kline, C.J. Kuykendall, Kennedy Moore, Tobin Kaiser, and Jaden Rodriguez split faceoff duties for the Hawks. Smith played all 60 minutes in goal, finishing the day with 12 saves.

UP NEXT

The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, March 18, hosting the University of Mount Olive at 7:00 p.m. at the CU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex for their first night game of the season.
