MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University softball team split a doubleheader with Pace University on Friday afternoon. Chowan took the first game in extra innings after the score remained tied 3-3 through the regulation seven innings. The Hawks plated the game-winning run on a wild pitch before game two concluded in favor of the Setters to close out the day.
With the split, Chowan moves to 11-12 overall.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORES
Game One
The Hawks and Setters battled through seven innings tied at 3-3 before Chowan secured the win in extra innings.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings before Chowan broke through in the bottom of the third. Kaitlyn Springle came around to score following an RBI single from Alexis Denham to give the Hawks the early lead.
Pace answered in the top of the fourth to even the score, but Chowan responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Lexie Ritchie crossed the plate while Hope Soria later scored on a throwing error to extend the Hawks advantage.
The Setters rallied in the fifth inning, plating two runs to tie the game at 3-3. Both teams were kept off the scoreboard through the sixth and seventh innings, sending the contest to extras.
Pace briefly took the lead in the top of the eighth with an RBI single to right field. Chowan responded in the bottom half of the inning when Calliope James scored a run to tie the game after Soria singled on a bunt.
Lenita Bryson later tripled down the right field line, allowing Emily Fowler—who entered as a pinch runner—to score the game-winning run on a wild pitch as she slid home ahead of the tag.
Soria led the Hawks offensively with two hits, a run scored, and two RBI. Ava Mizell and Kyra Helton each recorded two hits, while Denham added an RBI. James, Ritchie, and Fowler each scored a run, while Springle added a run and a hit.
In the circle, Makenzi Curry started for Chowan and pitched 4.1 innings. Abby Rutledge provided relief, tossing 3.2 innings while allowing just one hit and one run to earn the win.
Game Two
Game two remained scoreless through the first four innings before Pace broke through with the game's only run in the top of the fifth inning.
The Hawks recorded their lone hit of the contest in the bottom of the fifth when Lexie Ritchie delivered a pinch-hit single, breaking up the Setters' no-hit bid.
Emily Fowler started in the circle for Chowan, pitching 5.2 innings before taking the loss. Callie Tyndall entered in relief and tossed the final 1.1 innings to close out the game.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday, March 14, hosting the University of Mount Olive for a doubleheader at Hawks Field. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., with game two set to follow at 3:00 p.m.
