MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University softball team picked up two key Conference Carolinas wins on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of the University of Mount Olive. Chowan took game one 2-1 and game two 5-3 to improve their overall record to 13-12 and 4-6 in league play. Today's doubleheader wins move the Hawks to a 5-1 home field record this season.

Game One
Chowan got a solid pitching outing from Mackenzi Curry in game one to help pick up the 2-1 win. Curry pitched 6 innings, scattering six hits and giving up just one run to pick up her 4th win of the season. Abby Rutledge picked up her 3rd save of the year after coming in for relief in the top of the 7th with the tying run at 2nd base. After a UMO bunt to move their runner to 3rd and no outs, Rutledge retired three batters in a row to solidify the win for the Hawks. The Hawks tallied four hits in the game. Hope Soria went 1-2 with an RBI while Kaitlyn Springle went 1-3 with a run scored.
Game Two
The Hawks fended off a late Trojan attack to pick up a 5-3 game two win. Chowan combined efforts on the mound and at the plate in a balanced attack that also featured a solid defensive performance. Ava Mizell went 2-3 with two runs scored, a double, and an RBI to the lead offensive attack. Mizell stole four bases in the game and threw two runners out at the plate from second base defensively. Kyra Helton drove in a run in a 1-4 plate performance while Kyndal Hopkins came in clutch with an RBI single pinch hit.
On the mound Emily Fowler picked up the win after throwing 3 innings. She gave up 2 hits and held the Trojans scoreless. Rutledge came in for relief, throwing 3 innings, giving up three runs and striking out a batter. Callie Tyndall picked up the save after coming into the game in the 7th inning with the game tying run at the plate. She retired the side for her first save of the season.

The Hawks are scheduled to travel to Elizabeth City on Monday, March 16th for a 12pm doubleheader. They will return home on Wednesday, March 18th for a 1:00pm doubleheader with Virginia Union University.
