FERRUM, VA. - The Chowan University softball team split a doubleheader with Ferrum University on Wednesday afternoon, falling 3-1 in game one before bouncing back to take game two, 1-0, against the Panthers.
Chowan recorded six hits in each game, scoring their lone run of the opener in the sixth inning before plating the game-winning run in the first inning of game two. With the split, the Hawks move to 10-11 overall and 2-6 in conference play.

Game One
The Hawks tallied six hits in the opener, led by Kyra Helton who went 2-3 at the plate and collected an RBI. Ava Mizell added a hit and scored Chowan's lone run of the game, while Lenita Bryson, Makenzi Curry, and Hydee Kugler each contributed a hit.
Curry earned the start in the circle, pitching four innings while striking out three and allowing five hits to take the loss. Abby Rutledge came on in relief and was strong over the final two innings, striking out three while allowing no hits or runs.
Game Two
Chowan scored the game's only run in the first inning as Alexis Denham crossed the plate on an RBI from Curry. Denham finished the game with two hits and the run, while Curry added a hit and the RBI. Kyndal Hopkins and Morgan Baccus each recorded a pinch-hit single in the top of the seventh inning.
Rutledge delivered a complete game in the circle, tossing all seven innings while allowing four hits and no runs. She also struck out six batters to secure the shutout victory.

The Hawks return home to host Pace University on Friday, March 13, at the CU Softball Field. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., followed by game two at 3:00 p.m.
