Low, Egan Net Four Each as MacKenzie’s Eight-Point Day Lifts Hawks Past Trojans

PETERSBURG, VA. - The Chowan University men's lacrosse team picked up a 16-9 non-conference victory over Virginia State University on Wednesday afternoon at Rodgers Stadium.

The Hawks jumped out to a quick start, scoring four goals in the opening minutes to build a 4-0 lead in the first quarter. Chowan maintained that momentum throughout the contest, outscoring the Trojans in each of the first three quarters.

Chowan closed the opening period with a 6-1 advantage before adding to the lead with a 3-1 edge in the second quarter and a 4-2 margin in the third. The score in the final quarter would be 5-3, as the game would result in a 16-9 decision in favor of the Hawks. With the win, the Hawks improve to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Reed Low and Todd Egan led the Hawks offensively with four goals and one assist each. Low tallied five total points on the day, converting four of his five shots on goal. Egan was aggressive in the attack, firing 11 shots with nine on goal to also finish with five points.

Seth MacKenzie recorded a career performance, scoring two goals while dishing out a game- and career-high six assists for eight total points. MacKenzie added three shots on goal, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

Thomas Rohal chipped in two goals on eight shots, placing four on goal, while collecting three ground balls and causing two turnovers. Scott Cathcart also added two goals, putting five of his six shots on target while recording a ground ball and a caused turnover.

Michael Litchfield opened the scoring for the Hawks and added a ground ball, while Justin Hill also found the back of the net and scooped up two ground balls.

At faceoff, C.J. Kuykendal went 7-12 and led the game with five ground balls. Tyler Kline finished 4-6 with two ground balls, while Kennedy Moore and Tobin Kaiser each went 2-4. Moore collected two ground balls while Kaiser added one.

Rocco Smith played all 60 minutes in goal for the Hawks, making eight saves to earn the victory.
