Career Highs from Pettaway, Darden Highlight Senior Day 94-57 Victory Over Fleet

MURFREESBORO, N.C. -   The Chowan University women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day in dominant fashion Saturday afternoon, defeating Erskine College 94-57 inside Hawks Athletic Center.

Prior to tip-off, the Hawks honored seniors Yasmine Brown, Ayanna Rutledge, and Aquarius Pettaway, recognizing their contributions to the program ahead of May graduation. Chowan wasted no time setting the tone, building an early advantage over the Fleet and never looking back to secure the decisive victory.

Behind balanced scoring, the Hawks improved to 14-8 overall and 12-6 in conference play.

Aquarius Pettaway got the Hawks offense going early and remained a steady presence throughout, finishing with a career-high 13 points on 6-9 shooting while pulling down 12 rebounds, including nine on the defensive glass.

Nyeisha Savage followed closely with 12 points on 6-11 shooting and recorded a dominant double-double effort with 13 rebounds — eight offensive — while adding a block and an assist.

Daneesha Briggs contributed 11 points, shooting 4-8 from beyond the arc, along with four rebounds and an assist. Freshman Yamari Darden added a career-high 10 points, going 4-7 from the field and a perfect 2-2 at the free throw line, while also collecting two steals.

Sa'ni Savage and Keilani Johnson each chipped in eight points, while Askew added seven. Breya Busby and Wisdom Banks each contributed with six points apiece.

As a team, the Hawks shot 58.8 percent (37-77) from the floor. Chowan dominated inside with 50 points in the paint and received 49 points from the bench. The Hawks also capitalized on extra opportunities, scoring 21 second-chance points, 15 points off turnovers, and 15 fast-break points.

UP NEXT 

Chowan travels to face Converse University on Monday, February 23, in a makeup contest originally postponed due to weather. Tip-off in Spartanburg, S.C., is set for 4:00 PM.
