Brown Drains Buzzer-Beater to Push Hawks Past Bulldogs

WILSON, N.C. – The Chowan University women's basketball team secured a 56-53 win over the Barton Bulldogs on Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs tied the contest at 53 knocking down a three-pointer with four seconds left on the clock, but Yasmine Brown responded, pushing the ball full court to drain a triple at the buzzer to lift the Hawks to the win.

With the result, Chowan improves to 13-8 overall and 11-6 in Conference Carolinas play.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Chowan opened the game with momentum, outscoring the Bulldogs 16-9 in the first quarter. The second quarter featured even scoring at 12-12, sending the Hawks into halftime with a 28-21 advantage. The teams continued to trade baskets in the third quarter, with Barton pushing late in the fourth. After the opening minutes of the first quarter, the Hawks maintained control of the lead for the remainder of the contest, ultimately capitalizing on the late three-pointer from Brown to secure the 56-53 victory.

Brown paced the Hawks with 18 points, shooting a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc and converting seven free throws. She added three assists, three steals, and two rebounds. Daneesha Briggs contributed 10 points on 4-8 shooting, knocking down two three-pointers and recording a block. Alexandria James-Fearon finished with nine points on 4-5 shooting while adding three rebounds, three assists, a block, and a steal.

Ayanna Rutledge chipped in five points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Nyeisha Savage controlled the glass with four points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks.

As a team, the Hawks shot 35.7 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from three-point range. Chowan outrebounded Barton 47-38 and totaled 18 points in the paint, 18 bench points, 11 points off turnovers, and 10 fast-break points.

The Hawks return home to host Erskine College on Saturday, February 21, for Senior Day. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. inside the Hawks Athletic Center.
