Summers Records Career-High's in Hawks’ Setback at Barton

WILSON, N.C. – The Chowan University men's basketball team dropped an 89-75 decision to the Barton College Bulldogs on Wednesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium. Chowan trailed 42-34 at halftime before adding 41 second-half points, but Barton maintained control to secure the Conference Carolinas matchup. Damerius Summers recorded a standout performance, posting career highs in rebounds, assists, and steals to lead the Hawks' effort.

WIth the results the Hawks move to 13-12 overall and 11-6 in conference play.

Summers paced the Hawks with 16 points while recording a career-high 17 rebounds, five assists, and three steals to go along with three blocks. Joseph Lezeau II added 13 points and nine rebounds, shooting 4-9 from the field and 4-6 at the free-throw line. Damien Robinson contributed 11 points on 5-8 shooting, while Markell Hollis finished with 12 points, knocking down 2-3 from beyond the arc and adding five rebounds and three assists to round out the double-figure scorers.

William Hynes and Eric Gordon Jr. each chipped in eight points, with Hynes adding five rebounds and two steals, while Gordon Jr. dished out five assists and recorded a steal.

Chowan totaled 34 points in the first half and 41 in the second, finishing the night shooting 39.2 percent from the field and 26.3 percent from three-point range. The Hawks held a 46-43 rebounding edge and produced 44 points in the paint, 32 bench points, 17 second-chance points, 15 fast-break points, and 11 points off turnovers.
