MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Throughout the 2026-27 Chowan Athletics season, the Chowan Athletic Department will feature the Ace Hardware Student-Athletes of the Week. For the week of September 24 – September 30, Gabriel Ansley from the men's golf team and Ellis Baxter of the women's soccer team have been recognized for their standout performances over the past week of competition.

Sophomore Gabriel Ansley put together a career performance at the 2026 Wolves Fall Intercollegiate, earning a share of first place in the 47-golfer field at Edgewater Golf Club in Lancaster, S.C. Ansley finished all three rounds under par, carding scores of 71, 67 and 69 to close the 54-hole tournament with a nine-under-par 207. He opened competition with a one-under 71 behind four birdies before turning in his lowest round of the tournament with a five-under 67 in round two. Ansley recorded seven birdies in the second round to move into a tie for first on the individual leaderboard heading into the final day. He followed with six more birdies in the final round, shooting a 33 on the front nine and a 36 on the back to card a three-under 69 and secure a share of first place. The finish marked the first first-place performance of Ansley's collegiate career and helped Chowan finish fifth in the nine-team field. His performance also earned him Conference Carolinas Men's Golfer of the Week honors.

Freshman Ellis Baxter provided a consistent offensive presence for the Chowan women's soccer team across three Conference Carolinas matches against Mount Olive, King and UNC Pembroke. The Leeds, England, native opened the stretch by scoring Chowan's first goal against Mount Olive, finding the back of the net in the 12th minute off an assist from Amy Cotton to bring the Hawks even at 1-1. Baxter finished the match with three shots, placing two on goal. She continued to create opportunities in Chowan's 1-0 road victory over King, recording two shots and placing both on frame. Baxter closed the week by striking early against UNC Pembroke, scoring just 7:03 into the match off an assist from Laura Hulme to give Chowan a 1-0 advantage. Across the three-match stretch, Baxter totaled two goals on seven shots while placing five attempts on goal, providing an offensive threat for the Hawks throughout the week.
