MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Throughout the 2025-2026 Chowan Athletic season, the Chowan Athletic Department will feature the Ace Hardware Student-Athletes of the Week. For the week of January  14 – January 21, Yasmine Brown of the women's basketball team and Markell Hollis of the men's basketball team, have been recognized for their standout performances over the past week of competition.

Yasmine Brown turned in three strong performances last week, averaging 12.7 points per game across the stretch. She led the team in scoring against Belmont Abbey College on January 17, finishing with 11 points while adding six rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Brown followed that effort with a standout showing on January 19 against King University, leading the Hawks with 21 points. She was efficient from long range, shooting 3-for-6 from beyond the arc, and went 4-for-6 at the free throw line. The 2024–25 Female Athlete of the Year has now earned Ace Hardware Player of the Week honors twice this season.

Markell Hollis has continued his steady rise this season having the best game of his Chowan career during the week. In the first of three matchups of the week against UNC Pembroke, Hollis recorded 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range and the free-throw line, while adding six rebounds, two steals, and a block. He stayed consistent in the January 17 matchup against Belmont Abbey College, scoring 15 points on 2-of-4 shooting from deep and a perfect night at the line, along with two steals and a block. Hollis saved his biggest performance for January 19 against King University, posting a career- and game-high 26 points. He went 6-for-7 from the free-throw line and filled the stat sheet with five rebounds, four assists, and a steal.
