Hawks Continue Home Streak with Win Over King

MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University women's basketball team picked up a big Conference Carolinas win after handing King a 76-69 defeat on Monday evening. With the win, the Hawks move to 8-7 overall and 6-5 in league play. The Hawks ran their home win streak to win in a row with Monday's win.

Senior guard Yasmine Brown poured in 21 points to lead the Hawks offensive attack.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Jade Clowney came off the bench to give the Hawks the spark they needed in a tightly contested match up. The game saw 10 lead changes and three ties but the Hawks defense went to work in the fourth quarter to hold King to just four points. Chowan outscored the Tornado 20-4 in the final quarter of play to roll to the 76-69 win. Clowney hit three trey's in the final five minutes of play to help propel the team to the win. 

The Hawks won the battle of the glass, out rebounding the Tornado 47-34 overall. Nyeshia Savage grabbed 14 rebounds, including 8 offensive boards, to go with 7 points and a block. Desiree Askew continued to play steady for the Hawks. She contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Brown's 21 points led the Hawks offensive efforts. Clowney ended the night with 11 points while Daneesha Briggs scored 9 points and hit three three-pointers. Alexandria James-Fearon played a well balanced game, scoring 8 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, dishing out 3 assists and getting 3 steals. Ayanna Rutledge scored 7 points and had 3 assists in the game.

The Hawks will continue with Conference Carolinas play as they play host Ferrum College in their next outing on Saturday, January 24th, 2026.
