Hawks Rally in Five-Set Matchup but Fall to Bulldogs

WILSON, N.C. – The Chowan University volleyball team fought hard in a five-set match against conference opponent Barton College on Tuesday evening. The Bulldogs took the first two sets before Chowan responded by winning the next two to even the score. However, the Hawks comeback fell short in the decisive fifth set, resulting in a 3-2 defeat to Barton. With the setback, Chowan sits at 2-12 overall and 1-5 in conference play, while Barton improves to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the league.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES

Offensively, Rosa Lynn Collier led the Hawks with 13 kills, followed by Anna Holcombe with 11 and Gabriella Figueroa close behind with 9. Brooke Hart paced the Hawks attack with 24 assists, while Alexandra Liggeri added 16. Hart also filled the stat sheet with a match-high three service aces, while Jada Caruthers and Jadyn Brown added in two apiece to elevate the offensive effort.

On the defensive side, Diana Rodriguez had a match and season high of 41 digs. Brown added 20 digs, and Liggeri contributed 9. At the net, Jy'Asha Cousins was a dominant presence with 7 blocks to lead all players, while Figueroa denied 6 attacks and Caruthers tallied 3 to round out a strong defensive performance.

The Hawks will continue conference play as they host Young Harris College on Friday, October 3, with the  match set for 6:00 PM.
