Chowan Claims First Set but Warriors Take the Match

CENTRAL, S.C. – The Chowan University volleyball team battled in a conference matchup against Southern Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks came out strong, claiming the opening set, but the Warriors were able to rally back to take the match. With the result, Chowan moves to 2-11 on the season and 1-4 in league play, while Southern Wesleyan improves to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in conference action.

Offensively, Anna Holcombe paced the attack with 11 kills. She was backed by Hanna Virts with seven, Jy'Asha Cousins with six, and both Gabriella Figueroa and Makeda Edwards contributing four apiece. Brooke Hart dished out 18 assists while Alexandra Liggeri added 10 of her own.

On defense, Diana Rodriguez led the effort with 16 digs. Hart chipped in nine, while Liggeri and Jaydn Brown followed closely with eight each. At the net, Figueroa posted a pair of blocks, with Rosa Lynn Collier, Virts, and Cousins each tallying one.

The service game also proved strong, highlighted by multiple aces. Figueroa and Brown led the way with three, while Rodriguez, Holcombe, and Hart each added two of their own.

UP NEXT

The Hawks hit the road Tuesday, September 30, to face Barton College in Wilson, N.C., with the match scheduled for 6:00pm.
