Hawks Fall Short in Series Opener at Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Chowan baseball team came up short in a single game on the road Friday afternoon, falling to the Erskine Flying Fleet in Conference Carolinas play.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

In game one, the Hawks opened the scoring in the second inning when Caden Rector singled to center, driving in a run. Geomar Santana followed with a triple to center to bring in two more, and Warren Bailey added an RBI single to right to cap off a four-run inning. Ben Bausas chipped in with an RBI single to center in the sixth. Bailey had a strong day at the plate, going 4-for-5, while Christopher Rumaldo went 3-for-4 and scored twice.

Nicky Wohleking got the start on the mound for the Hawks, working 3.2 innings while allowing three hits and two earned runs, and striking out five. Josh Tripp, Gabe King, and Landon Tyndall all came on in relief. Dylan Nickle also pitched out of the bullpen and was tagged with the loss, dropping to 0-1 on the season.

UP NEXT

Due to lightning in the area, Friday's schedule was adjusted, and the Hawks will now play a doubleheader on Saturday to wrap up the road series. First pitch is set for 11:00 AM in Due West, S.C.
