MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University softball team battled to a split against Georgian Court in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Hawks Field.

Game one featured a pitching duel between the Hawks and the Lions. Chowan's lone run came in the fourth inning when Lenita Bryson connected for a single to right center, allowing Kaitlyn Springle to cross the plate.
Haileigh Boone started in game one, pitching five innings and allowing just five hits, one run, while striking out two batters. Abby Rutledge relieved Boone, tossing two innings, giving up one hit and one run, while striking out five batters.
In game two, the Hawks' offense came alive in the second inning when Lenita Bryson launched a homer to left field. In the fourth, Kyndal Hopkins drove in a run with a sac fly, followed by Alex Bishop's single through the left side, which plated another run. Ava Mizell scored in the sixth on a wild pitch, and Hopkins added another run with a bunt single. With the score tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh, Elizabeth Ingle stepped up and blasted a walk-off home run to left field, securing the Hawks' victory.
Alex Bishop started in the circle, pitching four innings and allowing seven hits, three runs, while striking out two batters. Abby Rutledge came in relief, earning the win for the Hawks as she surrendered just one hit and two runs over two innings of work.

The Hawks will return to action on Friday, March 14th, when they host Mount Olive for their Conference Carolinas opener. The doubleheader is set to begin at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
