MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University softball team went head-to-head with Mount Olive in their Conference Carolinas opener on Friday afternoon, splitting the doubleheader at Hawks Field.

In game one, the scoring began in the first inning when Elizabeth Ingle laid down a bunt single to bring in a run. Kaitlyn Springle followed with another bunt single, driving in another run in the same inning. Mckenzie Misenheimer then blasted two home runs, each driving in two runs for the Hawks—her first came in the third inning, with the second in the fifth.
Earning the Hawks' first conference win on the mound was Haileigh Boone, who pitched a complete seven innings. She allowed just three hits, one run, and struck out three batters.
The Hawks tallied four hits in game two, with Lenita Bryson, Ingle, Kyra Helton, and Misenheimer each contributing a hit.
Taking the loss in the circle was Alex Bishop, who pitched the first inning and fell to 0-1 on the season. Abby Rutledge relieved Bishop, throwing five innings, allowing just three hits, and striking out five batters.
