Hawks Split Twinbill at Winston-Salem State University

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Chowan University Hawks softball team improved its overall record to 8-11 on the year after splitting a twin bill, non-conference match up against Winston-Salem State University. Chowan narrowly fell in the opening game with a score 4-3 but bounced back to take the nightcap with a decisive 12-3 victory.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE 

The Hawks were held to one hit in game one. Calliope James drove in two runs in Chowan's final at-bat of the game with a double. James drove in Kyra Helton and Kaitlin Springle, who both drew walks to get on base. WSSU held on to the one-run lead in the 7th to take the opening game 4-3. Emily Fowler picked up the loss on the mound after tossing 2.2 innings. Fowler struck out three and faced off against 14 Ram batters. Abby Rutledge pitched out the game, giving up a run and striking out five batters. 

After being held to one hit in game one, the Hawks bounced back in the nightcap win to collect 12 team hits. James continued where she left off at the plate with a 3-4 plate performance, three runs scored, and two RBI. Helton, Ava Mizell, and Elizabeth Ingle each had multiple hits in the game. Ingle ripped both a double and a homerun to help propel the Hawks to the 12-3 road win. 

Haileigh Boone picked up her 5th win of the season after throwing a complete game. The junior gave up three runs and struck out one in 26 batters faced.
