Curry's Clutch Homer Seals Game One as Hawks Sweep Barton

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University Hawks took care of business on Friday afternoon, sweeping Barton College in a home Conference Carolinas doubleheader.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

In Game one of the doubleheader, the Hawks wasted no time getting on the board. In the first inning, Ava Mizell put the ball in play to drive in a run, followed by Makenzi Curry's RBI single up the middle, giving Chowan an early 2-0 lead. Barton responded in the third, evening the score at 2-2. However, in the fourth inning, Curry delivered the game-winning moment, launching a home run to right-center, securing a 3-2 victory for the Hawks.

Alex Bishop started on the mound for the Hawks, while Kendyl Elliott earned the win, improving to 2-0. Elliot pitched four shutout innings, allowing just one hit.

The Hawks got on the board in game two when Lenita Bryson laced a single up the middle in the second inning to put Chowan ahead 1-0. Bryson struck again in the fourth, ripping an RBI single to right to extend the lead. In the fifth, Kyra Helton capitalized on a wild pitch, crossing the plate to give the Hawks a 3-1 advantage.

Earning the start and the win in game two was Haileigh Boone, who pitched two innings, allowing just one hit. Abby Rutledge took over in relief, securing her second save with a four-inning performance, surrendering three hits while striking out five.

The Hawks will be back on the road at Mount Olive for a conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 1st at 5:00 and 7:00 PM.
