MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University men's lacrosse team secured their first victory of the season with a 13-8 win over Virginia State on Wednesday afternoon at Hawks Field in a non-conference showdown.
The victory also marks a milestone for head coach P.R. Simshauser, as it is his first win as a collegiate head coach.

The Hawks fired off 28 shots on goal, edging out the Trojans, who registered 27. Chowan successfully completed 19 of their 23 clear attempts and dominated the ground game, securing 41 ground balls to Virginia State's 22. The Hawks won 15 faceoffs.
Seth Mackenzie, Scott Cathcart, Reed Low, and Thomas Rohal each registered two goals for the Hawks in the win. Jacob Malia took 10 shots, five of which were on goal, and scored once. Ronaldo Williams grabbed eight ground balls, while Michael Litchfield picked up six. On defense, Patrick Hoff caused three turnovers for the Hawks.
Rocco Smith played the entire 60 minutes in goal for the Hawks, recording 16 saves and allowing just eight goals.
