MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader against Newberry College on Saturday afternoon in Newberry, S.C.

In game one, the Hawks recorded 12 hits. Kyra Helton, Ava Mizell, Mckenzie Misenheimer, and Calliope James each tallied two hits, with Misenheimer launching a home run in the top of the third. Elizabeth Ingle and Misenheimer each drove in a run for the Hawks.
Mackenzi Curry pitched three innings for the Hawks, taking the loss in game one and falling to 3-2 on the season. Alex Bishop relieved for one inning, followed by Abby Rutledge, who pitched two innings in relief.
In game two, the Hawks recorded seven hits. Mizell tripled to right field and scored as Misenheimer followed with a double down the left field line, driving in Mizell.
Haileigh Boone started the game and took the loss, pitching two innings and allowing four runs. Bishop relieved Boone in the bottom of the third, going the rest of the way and allowing just two hits.
