Hawks Drop Home-Opening Doubleheader to Barton College

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University baseball team lost both games of their home-opening doubleheader against the Barton College Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

In game one, the Hawks collected eight hits. Elvis Rumaldo and Christopher Rumaldo each had two hits, with Elvis doubling to right field, scoring two runs, and driving in two. Christopher homered in the sixth inning, driving in two runs and finishing with three RBIs. Jackson Dunlap also added an RBI.

On the mound, Nicky Wohleking took the loss, pitching the first five innings and striking out four batters. Dylan Nickle, Zackary Wilson, Alex Brown, Josh Tripp, and Matthew Lovitt each relieved Wohleking, contributing in relief throughout the game.

In game two, the scoring didn't begin until the 5th inning when Elvis Rumaldo walked with the bases loaded, driving in a run as Geomar Santana scored. In the 7th inning, Christopher Rumaldo singled to left center, bringing in a run as Elvis Rumaldo crossed the plate.

Angel Diaz went the distance on the mound in game two, pitching six innings and allowing just five hits. Christopher Rumaldo came in relief for Diaz, facing five batters, before Cody Ives took over and finished the game for the Hawks.

The Hawks will close out their home series against the Barton Bulldogs on Sunday, March 2nd, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm.
