WISE, V.A. - The Chowan University softball team dropped two games on Saturday afternoon in a weather-modified softball tournament at UVA-Wise. Two-day play was shortened to one day because of inclement weather in the area earlier this week. Chowan dropped an 8-2 decision to Cedarville University in game one and suffered a tough 7-5 match up against UVA-Wise in the nightcap.Â
The Hawks move to 5-3 on the season after Saturday's doubleheader.Â

INSIDE THE BOX SCOREÂ
In game one, Chowan jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Kyra Helton hustled for a inside the park homerun in the first inning. Mackenzie Curry pitched three shutout innings before Cedarville got on the board with 8 runs over the 4th and 5th innings. Elizabeth Ingle scored the Hawks second run of the game in the 5th inning.Â
Curry picked up her first loss on the mound after tossing three innings, giving up three runs and striking out two batters. Alex Bishop pitched two innings in relief giving up five runs. Emily Fowler tossed an inning, getting a strike out. Offensively the Hawks were led by Helton, who had two hits and an RBI. Curry added a hit in the game.Â
In game two, the Hawks battled with the host team, UVA-Wise, but fell with a final score of 7-5. Calliope James drove in Elizabeth Ingle to get the Hawks on the board in the 2nd inning. UVA-Wise added five runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to get on top of the Hawks. Chowan battled back to cut the UVA-Wise lead to 5-4 and knotted the game at 5-5 in the 6th after an RBI double by Ava Mizell drove in Mackenzie Meisenheimer from second base. UVA-Wise went on to get the go ahead runs in their next at-bat in the bottom of the 6th inning and held off the Hawks for their 4th win of the season.Â
Helton and Lenita Bryson had two hits apiece in game two. Haleigh Boone threw the first three innings of the game, allowing three runs but striking out four batters. Emily Fowler came in with the game knotted at 5-5, allowing two runs off of two hits.Â
