MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan softball team moved to 6-4 on the season after splitting a Sunday afternoon doubleheader with Fairmont State. The Hawks took a decisive 7-0 game one win behind the arm of freshman pitcher Mackenzie Curry but dropped the nightcap 4-0. Chowan improved their overall record to 6-4 while Fairmont State falls to 2-2 overall.

Freshman pitcher Mackenize Curry tossed a gem in game one. She picked up the complete game, shut out, scattering four hits and striking out four batters. Curry improved her overall mound record to 3-1 after the game one win. She helped secure the win offensively after knocking in two runs and going 1-2 in the batters box.
Chowan pounded out 10 hits as a team in game one, led by
Ava Mizell,
Elizabeth Ingle, and Kendyl Elliot. All three Hawks ended game one with two hits, including a solo homerun by Ingle.
Game two saw Haleigh Boone pick up her first season loss on the mound. Boone tossed 4.2 innings, giving up five hits and just two runs. She also struck out three falcon batters. The Hawks were paced by Mackenize Misenheimer at the plate who went 3-3.

Calliope James, and Kendyl Elliot each added a hit in the loss. Fairmont plated runs in the fourth and seventh innings to get the 4-0 win over the Hawks.
