MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Throughout the 2025-2026 Chowan Athletic season, the Chowan Athletic Department will feature the Ace Hardware Student-Athletes of the Week. For the week of December 10 – December 17, Nyeisha Savage of the women's basketball team and Markell Hollis of the men's basketball team, have been recognized for their standout performances over the past week of competition.

Nyeisha Savage recorded a double-double in last week's game against Emmanuel University, knocking down a game-tying putback with 30 seconds remaining. The junior from Suffolk, Virginia, finished the night with 13 points and 10 rebounds—four offensive and six defensive—along with a block, a steal, and an assist. Savage has impacted both ends of the floor with her rebounding and shot-blocking on defense while creating second-chance points on the offensive glass.

Markell Hollis has made an immediate impact on the Hawks' energy whenever he checks into the game. The freshman from Gaffney, South Carolina, strung together two strong performances from Wednesday to Wednesday. Hollis poured in 20 points against Emmanuel in 26 minutes to set a new season high, shooting 9-13 from the field and a perfect 2-2 from the free-throw line. He also added seven rebounds, three steals, and an assist. In the Hawks' overtime battle against Francis Marion, Hollis again reached double figures, finishing with 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
