MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University men's basketball team dropped a non-conference decision to Virginia State University at home on Wednesday night. Despite several key second half adjustments by the Hawks, they couldn't overcome the 47% first half shooting performance by the Trojans, falling with the final score of 74-63.
CU's Damien Robinson had his second double-digit scoring outing after finishing the game with 11 points and 7 boards.

Chowan trailed 42-34 at the half after hitting 38% (13-34) from the floor while the Trojans hit for 47% (17-36). The Hawks came out of the halftime break with adjustments that slowed down Virginia State's offensive attack in the second half. Chowan kept it close, battling back from a 16 point second half deficit late in the game, but couldn't string together points down the stretch to get the eventual loss.
Ten different Hawks notched points in the game, led by Robinson. Robinson hit 5-8 from the floor and battled under the boards for 7 rebounds. Eric Gordon Jr. joined Robinson in double-figures after dropping 10 points while Damerius Summers scored 9 points and had 5 rebounds. Dominique Bailey dished out three assists and had five points. William Hynes had 2 assists, 2 steals, and 8 points. Israel Powell also hit for 8 points in the game.
