MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Chowan University volleyball team put up a strong fight but fell 3-1 to Mount Olive University on Tuesday evening. After the Trojans claimed the opening set, the Hawks answered back with an impressive performance to take the second. The final two sets remained close staying within seven points in the third and just four in the final frame. With the result, the Hawks move to 4-15 overall and 3-8 in conference play, while Mount Olive improves to 8-12 overall and 6-6 in the league.

Alauna Wilson-Linn and Anna Holcombe both led the Hawks with a team high eight kills, while Rosa Lynn Collier added seven. Madison Henderson contributed five kills to round out a balanced attack. Brooke Hart and Alexandra Liggeri directed the offense efficiently, combining for 28 assists with 14 apiece. At the service line, Diana Rodriguez led the team with three aces, followed closely by Liggeri with two.
Defensively, the Hawks recorded a total of 77 digs on the night. Rodriguez anchored the back row with a solid 30 digs, while Liggeri and Hart added 11 and 10, respectively. At the net, Henderson led with five blocks, Jy'Asha Cousins tallied two, and Collier, Wilson-Linn, and Gabriella Figueroa each chipped in one to round out Chowan's defensive effort.

Chowan will return home to host King University on Friday, October 17, at 6:00 PM in the Hawks Athletic Center. The matchup marks Chowan Volleyball's annual Dig Pink game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and show their support for the cause.
