MURFREESBORO, N.C. –The Chowan University Hawks men's basketball team opened their season with a road victory against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears, with a final score of 81-68 on November 8, 2024. The win puts the Hawks at 1-0 overall. The Bears fall to 0-1.Â

Daylan Askew led the offensive efforts for Chowan with 24 points. He also had 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Aaron Ross played a pivotal role, contributing 18 points in the Hawks season opener. Damerius Summers' came off the bench to score 12 points and 8 rebounds.
The Hawks jumped out to an 11-0 lead early in the first half before Lenoir-Rhyne battled back to keep the game close. Chowan took a narrow 41-40 lead into the halftime break after hitting shots at a 46% clip from the floor. The combination of Askew, Ross, and Summers went to work in the second half to pull the Hawks to a season opening win in the SAC/Conference Carolinas Challenge.Â
