MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team battled to the final out in a twinbill loss to Barton in league action on Sunday afternoon.

Kira Soodek, Tessa Nicholson, and Mckenzie Misenheimer tallied two hits each to pace the Hawks. Kendyl Elliott, Kyra Helton, and Megan Leon picked up one hit each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 1, Barton 11 – five innings
Barton would take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on two hits and three walks. The Bulldogs would add to their tally in the third with five runs as Barton took advantage of two errors.
The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 11-0 in the fourth.
Megan Leon picked up the first hit in the contest for the Hawks in the third inning before Mckenzie Misenheimer doubled to lead off the fourth. Misenheimer moved to third on fly ball before scoring on Serena Riley's ground out.
Game Two: Chowan 1, Barton 3
Barton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as an error allowed the runner to score.
Chowan looked to rally in the bottom of the inning as Serena Riley drew a walk before Tessa Nicholson singled up the middle. The pair moved up a base before being stranded in scoring position.
The Hawks would even the score in the bottom of the third as Kendyl Elliott singled to right. Tessa Nicholson delivered a two-out double to right center to plate Elliott, 1-1.
Barton used small-ball in the top of the fifth to plate a run after a pair of sacrifice bunts, 2-1. The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the sixth inning to lead 3-1.
In the seventh, Kendyl Elliott reached on an error before Mckenzie Misenheimer singled to right center. A fly ball allowed the runner to move to third before the end of the inning.
