MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team stayed close until the later innings as King handed the Hawks a pair of losses in Conference Carolinas action at home on Sunday.

Haleigh Reid led the Hawks with four hits including going 3-3 in game two. Serena Riley tallied three hits, while Mckenzie Misenheimer added two hits and Kyra Helton and Madison Dilday with one hit each.
Mckenzie Misenheimer hauled in 10 putouts including multiple catches in the gap.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 0, King 4
Both teams were unable to find a run in the contest in the early innings as both team's pitchers worked out of jams.
Chowan had a chance in the bottom of the fifth as Kira Soodek was hit by a pitch and Serena Riley posted a bunt single. A double play ended the threat with a runner on third.
King broke the scoreless streak in the sixth with three runs and added a run in the seventh to take the victory 4-0.
Game Two:
King started the second game with a solo home run before a sacrifice fly put the Tornado up 2-0 in the first inning.
Chowan would cut into the deficit in the fourth inning as Haleigh Reid produced a lead-off single followed by a single by Mckenzie Misenheimer. Caston Garland drew a walk to load the bases before a run came around to score on a wild pitch, 2-1.
The Tornado stretched their lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning before the Hawks rallied in the bottom of the inning. Kyra Helton reached on an error to start the inning and stole second. Serena Riley reached on a bunt single to plate Helton. Haleigh Reid singled before another error in the inning allowed the Hawks to even the score, 3-all.
King took advantage of an error in the sixth inning to prolong the inning and retake the lead 5-3. The Tornado pushed their advantage to 9-3 in the seventh.
Madison Dilday recorded a single to right in the bottom of the seventh.

Chowan hits the road for their final two series of the season as the Hawks take on Belmont Abbey on Friday, April 21 before going to North Greenville on Saturday.
