Hawks Fall To Braves In League Action

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team dropped a twinbill against UNC Pembroke in Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday afternoon.

Kira Soodek led the Hawks with three hits on the afternoon.  Lindsey Richter picked up two hits while Peyton Rockwell, Tessa Nicholson, Megan Leon, and Caston Garland tallied one hit apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Chowan 2, UNC Pembroke 5

Both team's pitchers worked well in the early going of the contest until UNC Pembroke used a four-run fourth inning to break the deadlock.

The Braves added a run in the fifth to lead 5-0.

Chowan would start to rally in the top of the seventh as Kira Soodek led off the inning with a double to left field.  Lindsey Richter drew a walk before the pair moved up a base on a ground out.  A run would score on a passed ball before Peyton Rockwell plated a run on an infield single to cut the deficit to 5-2.

Game Two: Chowan 3, UNC Pembroke 9

The Braves opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning posting four runs off five hits.  UNCP added a run in the second to lead 5-0.

Chowan closed the gap in the top of the fourth inning as Tessa Nicholson picked up a single and stole second.  Hannah Moseley drew a walk before moving into scoring position on a passed ball.  Megan Leon singled and scampered to third on a throwing error that plated a pair.  Lindsey Richter singled to right to plate Leon to cut the deficit to 5-3.

UNCP countered with four runs in the fourth to stretch their lead to 9-3.

The Hawks would not move a runner past second beyond the fifth inning.

UP NEXT

Chowan hosts King and Lees-McRae in a Conference Carolinas weekend series with King coming to town on Friday, April 14.  Senior Day will take place on Saturday against the Bobcats.
