MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team suffered a pair of losses at home against Francis Marion in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

Chowan managed three hits in the doubleheader as Serena Riley, Haleigh Reid, Hannah Moseley, Elizabeth Heller, and Alex Bishop picked up one hit each. Riley hit a home run while Moseley tallied the lone hit in game one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 0, Francis Marion 14
Francis Marion scored five runs in the first inning to take a 5-0 lead.
Chowan looked to have a rally in the bottom of the first as Lindsey Richter drew a lead-off walk and stole second. A fielding error by the pitcher allowed the inning to continue but would leave a pair of runners stranded in scoring position.
The Patriots added a run in the third inning to lead 6-0.
Hannah Moseley broke up the no-hit bid in the fifth inning with a single to right. Kyra Helton drew a walk before the pair was stranded in scoring position.
FMU added eight runs on eight hits in the seventh inning to take the victory 14-0.
Game Two: Chowan 1, Francis Marion 18
Francis Marion took advantage of the free passes in the top of the first inning to lead 2-0. FMU added three runs in the second inning and four in the third to lead 9-0.
Haleigh Reid hit a single up the middle for the only offense in the opening innings.
FMU took advantage of a pair of miscues in the fourth inning to lead 14-0.
Serena Riley would put the Hawks on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo home run through the wind to left center.
FMU tacked on four runs in the fifth to finish off the scoring.
Elizabeth Heller and Alex Bishop produced a pinch-hit single in the bottom of the fifth.
