Hawks Dealt Loss In Rubber Match Against Crusaders

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team battled the wind, rain, and Belmont Abbey before falling in the final game of the league series on Saturday afternoon.

Christian Bartholomew paced the Hawks with two of the six hits in the contest including a home run.

Tyler West, Noah Evington, Ty Johnson, and Ethan Robinson picked up one hit each.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Belmont Abbey took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a wind-aided home run to left.  The Crusaders added another tally with a solo shot in the fourth.

Christian Bartholomew would hit his third home run of the season with a solo blast in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-1.

BAC used four runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 8-1.

The Hawks would rally in the bottom of the sixth inning as Rowan Hudson and Aidan Feather drew walks to start the inning.  Christian Bartholomew singled to load the bases before Jackson Dunlap was hit by a pitch to plate a run.  Ty Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to close the gap to 8-3.

The Crusaders tacked on eight runs on four hits in the seventh inning to finish off the scoring, 16-3.

UP NEXT

Chowan takes a step out of league action to take on Mid-Atlantic Christian on Tuesday, April 4.  First pitch is slated for 3pm.

The Chowan Developmental team will compete in the Conference Carolinas Developmental Championship on Monday, April 3.  The Hawks will take on Barton at 12:45pm.
