MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Chowan Softball team fended off the late rallies by Malone in the doubleheader sweep on Thursday in Myrtle Beach.

Serena Riley paced the offense with three hits. Haleigh Reid posted a pair of doubles to go with two RBI. Kira Soodek collected two hits. Mckenzie Misenheimer posted three runs scored.
Haileigh Boone picked up the win in game one with 10 strikeouts. Bailey Wilcox posted a win and a save on the afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 5, Malone 4
Haileigh Boone would sit down the batters in order the first time through the line up on eight straight strikeouts.
Chowan would take a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning as Serena Riley drew a walk and moved to third on a pair of errors. Mckenzie Misenheimer brought home Riley on a sac fly before Kira Soodek scored on Caston Garland's single.
The Hawks added on three runs in the fourth inning, thanks to two more errors. Serena Riley and Kira Soodek singled before Mckenzie Misenheimer singled up the middle to plate a pair on a throwing error. Caston Garland produced a RBI groundout to lead 5-0.
Malone cracked the scoreboard in the sixth inning on a pair of hits to cut the deficit to 5-1. Malone would score three runs in the bottom of the seventh as an error started the rally. Bailey Wilcox came in and forced a fly out and a pop up to end the rally.
Game Two: Chowan 7, Malone 6
Chowan took advantage of an error in the bottom of the first inning to open the scoring. Mckenzie Misenheimer reached on an error before Haleigh Reid hit a double down the right field line. Serena Riley singled up the middle to put the Hawks up 2-0.
Abbie Sutton produced a lead-off double before Bailey Wilcox, hitting for herself, recorded a single to right to plate Sutton for the 3-0 advantage.
Malone tallied a run in the fourth inning before the Hawks rallied in the bottom of the inning. Megan Leon and Abbie Sutton drew a walk before Kyra Helton's single to left plated Leon. Mckenzie Misenheimer was hit by a pitch prior to Tessa Nicholson reaching on an error. Haleigh Reid doubled to left center to extend the lead to 7-1.
Malone would look to make another late inning rally scoring five runs off four hits and an error in the seventh inning but would not make the comeback, 7-6.
