MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team opened up league action with a split against Erskine on Friday afternoon at home.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Mckenzie Misenheimer led the Hawks at the plate with three hits including three runs scored and 5-5 in stolen base attempts. Misenheimer made two diving catches in the outfield, while Kyra Helton provided a defensive stop in right field.
Haleigh Reid tallied two hits along with a game-ending RBI walk. Haileigh Boone (6-4) picked up the win in game one in relief tossing 4.0 scoreless innings allowing only two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 4, Erskine 3
Erskine would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning after a pair of doubles. The Fleet would add to their lead in the fourth inning on two hits and an error to lead 3-0.
The Hawks rallied in the bottom of the fourth as Mckenzie Misenheimer started the rally with a single and a stolen base. Haleigh Reid singled and moved to second on the throw before Serena Riley produced a RBI ground out. Reid came around to score on Tessa Nicholson's RBI sacrifice bunt to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Chowan evened the score in the bottom of the sixth as Mckenzie Misenheimer started the inning getting hit by a pitch. Misenheimer would swipe second and third before scoring on Tessa Nicholson's single to right center.
Erskine tried to score the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth but Haleigh Reid's diving attempt at the plate cut down the runner trying to score on an errant throw home to end the threat.
Kyra Helton drew a walk before Mckenzie Misenheimer loaded the bases with a single up the middle in the bottom of the eighth. Haleigh Reid drew a full-count walk to plate the winning run.
Game Two: Chowan 5, Erskine 13
Erskine would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning loading the bases on three free passes before the run scored on a two-out error.
Chowan answered in the bottom of the inning as Mckenzie Misenheimer singled to right center and stole second. Haleigh Reid singled up the middle to plate Misenheimer to even the score.
Four hits and an error allowed the Fleet to take a 5-1 advantage in the top of the second inning.
The Hawks started to rally in the bottom of the fourth to cut into the deficit. Serena Riley picked up a base hit before coming around to score on Caston Garland's double to left. Garland scored of an error to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Erskine picked up four runs in the fifth to push the advantage to 9-3. Chowan took advantage of two errors in the bottom of the fifth as Kyra Helton doubled to left center before scoring on an error.
The Fleet wrapped up the contest in the sixth inning to take the victory 13-5.
