MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team picked up the sweep against Elizabeth City State to start Spring Break on Sunday afternoon.

Serena Riley and Peyton Rockwell led the Hawks with two hits each. Riley blasted her second home run of the season. Abbie Sutton, Megan Leon, Caston Garland, Tessa Nicholson, Lindsey Richter, and Haleigh Reid posted one hit each. Nicholson collected her first home run of her career.
Bailey Wilcox and Haileigh Boone picked up wins in the circle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 7, Elizabeth City 2
Chowan opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as the Hawks loaded the bases with free passes. Megan Leon would pick up a RBI single to left field. Mckenzie Misenheimer reached on an error that allowed two more runs to score to lead 3-0.
The Hawks would extend their lead in the third inning as Tessa Nicholson hit a solo shot. Chowan added to their lead in the sixth inning as Peyton Rockwell singled to left to plate a run. An error in the inning allowed two runs to score to lead 7-0.
Elizabeth City State would score a pair in the bottom of the seventh.
Game Two: Chowan 4, Elizabeth City State 1
Lindsey Richter would start the nightcap off with a walk before swiping second and came around to score on a wild pitch to open the scoring, 1-0.
Kira Soodek reached on an error to open the second inning before Serena Riley hit a two-run home run to lead 3-0. Another error in the inning allowed the rally to continue as Peyton Rockwell singled to left to plate Mckenzie Misenheimer from second after reaching on an error.
The Vikings picked up a pair of hits in the fifth inning leading to a run to cut the deficit to 4-1. Haileigh Boone allowed one base runner in the final two innings to finish off the contest.

Chowan hits the road to compete in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic at Myrtle Beach. The Hawks will take on Fairmont State and Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday, March 7.
