Heartbreak Strikes Chowan Again In 16-15 Loss To Wheeling

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Lacrosse team rallied but came up short yet again in another one-goal loss in a 16-15 decision against Wheeling on Sunday.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Eric George led the charge with six goals and two assists.  Jaxon Martin collected four goals and three assists.  Noah Jalal tallied three goals and four assists.

Erik Dozzi added one goal and two assists, while Harrison Buckman posted one goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Chowan would score the opening three goals of the contest as Noah Jalal collected two goals and an assist.  Eric George added a goal and an assist, while Jaxon Martin posted an assist to lead 3-0.

Wheeling answered with five straight goals to lead 5-3.

Eric George scored a pair of goals off assists by Jaxon Martin and Noah Jalal to close the gap to 6-5.  Martin and George scored unassisted to trail 12-8 at the intermission.

The Cardinals pushed their lead to 16-9 despite a goal by Jaxon Martin.  Eric George scored on the man-up advantage before Erik Dozzi found Jaxon Martin and Harrison Buckman (man-up).  Dozzi would find the back of the net himself to cut the deficit to 16-13.

Noah Jalal scored off an assist by Eric George before George found the back of the net from Jaxon Martin to trim the deficit to one, 16-15, with 3:13 remaining.

Eric George and Erik Dozzi had a chance in the final minutes to find the equalizer but was turned away.

UP NEXT

Chowan hits the road to take on Alderson Broaddus in a non-conference contest on Wednesday, March 8.  Opening face-off is slated for 2pm.
