MURFREESBORO, N.C. – An early lead plus a late rally was not enough for Chowan Baseball to secure their first win of the season as the Hawks were handed a pair of losses against nationally-ranked UNC Pembroke in league action on Saturday.

Christian Bartholomew paced the Hawks with five hits including two doubles. Aidan Feather picked up three hits including two home runs. Warren Bailey tallied three hits with a double and a home run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 5, UNC Pembroke 9
Geomar Santana led off the bottom of the first inning with a walk. Santana would come around to score on Christian Bartholomew's double to right center. Warren Bailey would send a ball over the left center field fence to give the Hawks a 3-0 advantage.
UNC Pembroke would get a run back in the second inning as a two out error allowed a runner to score. The Braves tacked on another run in the third as a pop-up ended up as a double in the swirling winds.
UNCP took control of the contest in the fifth inning plating five runs off five hits and two home runs to lead 7-3. The Braves added a pair of runs in the eighth inning on a pair of errors, 9-3.
Ty Johnson led off the ninth with a single to left field. Aidan Feather would send a two-run shot down the right field line to close the gap to 9-5. Christian Bartholomew would double to left but would be left stranded to end the contest.
Game Two: Chowan 1, UNC Pembroke 10
UNCP scored two runs in the top of the first as a two-out error aided the rally.
Christian Bartholomew reached on a high chopper followed by a single by Aidan Feather, but three straight strikeouts ended the threat in the first.
The Braves used two home runs in the second to extend their lead to 6-0. A solo home run in the fourth and a three-run home run in the fifth pushed the advantage to 10-0 for the Braves.
Aidan Feather hit a solo home run to center field for the only run of the contest for the Hawks in the fifth inning.

Chowan takes on UNC Pembroke for the third and final game of the series on Sunday, March 5. First pitch is slated for 1pm.
