Offense Quiet In Match Up Against Emmanuel

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team dropped their league twinbill against Emmanuel in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

Chowan's offense was quiet in the doubleheader collecting three total hits.  Megan Leon, Tessa Nicholson, and Kyra Helton posted a hit.  Caston Garland and Serena Riley posted a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Chowan 1, Emmanuel 5

Chowan would take an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as Serena Riley was hit by a pitch and stole second.  Tessa Nicholson hit a single to right center to plate Riley for the lead.

Emmanuel evened the score in the top of the third as a lead-off walk would lead to an unearned run.  The Lions added a run in the fourth inning on a pair of doubles, 2-1.

Katelyn Matheny was the first base runner since the second inning, after reaching base on a hit-by-pitch in the fifth inning.

The Lions used the long-ball in the sixth inning to stretch their lead to 5-1.  Emmanuel looked to start a rally in the top of the seventh, but Mckenzie Misenheimer tracked down a ball in the gap to thwart the attempt.

Game Two: Chowan 2, Emmanuel 12

Emmanuel would take a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Chowan would take advantage of the Lions' misfortunes as Tessa Nicholson reached on an error and took second on the error.  Nicholson moved to third on a ground out before scoring on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Lions answered with a pair of runs in the third off three hits and an error, 5-1.  Emmanuel stretched their lead to 8-1 in the fourth inning.

Chowan would get a run back in the bottom of the inning as Serena Riley drew a walk before moving to second on a ground out and stole third.  Megan Leon singled to left to plate Riley to cut the deficit to 8-2.

Emmanuel would use a four run sixth inning to finish off the run-rule victory, 12-2.

UP NEXT

Chowan is slated to take on William Peace in a non-conference match up on Wednesday, March 22.  First pitch is slated for 1pm.
