Chowan Earns Season Sweep Of Trojans

MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan Women's Basketball team picked up the season sweep against their rivals, Mount Olive, in Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday evening with a 75-64 victory.

Destiny Robinson collected her 10th double-double of the season with a team-high 23 points and 14 rebounds.  Aniah Patterson, Keibra Hopkins, and Yasmine Brown posted 11 points each.

The Hawks went 20-28 from the charity stripe including 16-22 in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Mount Olive would lead 6-2 early as Aniah Patterson connected from the floor in transition.  Keibra Hopkins hit a jumper and Destiny Robinson scored the next four points to trail 9-8.  Patterson would hit a triple and Robinson hit a layup to lead 13-11.

Keibra Hopkins collected a basket and a free throw along with an offensive putback by Destiny Robinson to lead 18-12 at the quarter break.

Second Quarter:

Aniah Patterson and Destiny Robinson scored a basket each as Mount Olive chipped away, cutting the deficit to 22-20.  Imani Hickman added a layup to end the run.  Keibra Hopkins sparked a run with a jumper followed by a jumper by Tyaysia Sharpe and Patterson.  Jayah King-Johnson went 1-2 from the line to end the half as the Hawks would lead 31-23.

Third Quarter:

Destiny Robinson started the scoring with a layup followed by a three-pointer by Yasmine Brown.  Imani Hickman picked up a pair from the stripe.  Demetria Bland connected from the paint and Brown hit another triple to lead 43-32.

Chowan would pick up points at the line as Jayah King-Johnson ended the quarter with a three-point play to lead 55-42.

Fourth Quarter:

Mount Olive continued to chip away cutting the deficit to 10, but Destiny Robinson, Aniah Patterson, and Keibra Hopkins would hold off the rally.  Yasmine Brown added a pair of baskets as the Hawks finished off the contest at the stripe for the win.

UP NEXT

Chowan hosts nationally-ranked Belmont Abbey in a league contest on Saturday, February 11.  Tip-off is slated for 2pm.
