MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team split the final day of the Hawks Softball Classic on Sunday after picking up the win against Bowie State and falling in a one-run game against Frostburg State.

Tessa Nicholson went 3-3 in the doubleheader. Serena Riley and Lindsey Richter picked up four hits on the day including going 4-4 in the nightcap for Richter. Mckenzie Misenheimer added three hits, while Haleigh Reid tallied two hits.
Haleigh Boone picked up the win in the extended contest with Bowie State allowing one run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Chowan 7, Bowie State 1
After play was halted at the end of the third inning on Saturday, the scoring started in the top of the fourth inning as Bowie State took a 1-0 lead on a solo homerun.
Chowan would rally in the bottom of fourth as Serena Riley drew a walk and moved around to third on a pair of ground outs. Riley would score on a passed ball to even the score at 1-all.
The Hawks would use a strong sixth inning to break the deadlock. Serena Riley started the rally with a double to center field to greet the new Bulldog pitcher. Kyra Helton singled home Riley before taking second on the throw and stealing third. Caston Garland drew a walk and Tessa Nicholson added a RBI single. The pair pulled off a double steal before Garland scored on a wild pitch. Nicholson would score on Megan Leon's ground out to lead 5-1. An error in the inning kept the rally going as Mckenzie Misenheimer, Haleigh Reid, and Serena Riley singled to extend the lead to 7-1.
Haileigh Boone finished off the contest with a quick seventh for the win.
Chowan 5, Frostburg State 6
Frostburg State opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning as a free base led to the opening run of the contest, 1-0.
Chowan answered in the bottom of the first as Lindsey Richter and Mckenzie Misenheimer singled up the middle. A double steal attempt would lead to a run before Haleigh Reid grounded out to plate Misenheimer for a 2-1 advantage.
The Bobcats countered with a pair in the second inning on two hits and an error to regain the lead 3-2. FSU added a run in the third inning to lead 4-2.
The Hawks rallied in the bottom of the third inning as Lindsey Richter singled and stole second. Serena Riley plated Richter with a single to left to trail 4-3.
Frostburg State hit a two run homer in the fourth to lead 6-3. Lindsey Richter sparked a rally in the fifth inning with a single to left center. A ground out and a wild pitch moved her to third before a RBI groundout by Haleigh Reid closed the gap to 6-4.
Lindsey Richter led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple to right center. Mckenzie Misenheimer laid down a sacrifice bunt to plate Richter for the final run of the contest as a pair of groundouts ended the game.

Chowan will host Elizabeth City State in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, March 5. First pitch is slated for 1pm.
