MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team swept Virginia Union in a non-conference doubleheader at home collecting 24 walks in the twinbill on Tuesday afternoon.

Caston Garland went 2-2 with five RBI and three walks in the contest. Peyton Rockwell went 1-1 with four walks and four runs scored.
Mckenzie Misenheimer, Kira Soodek, and Lindsey Richter picked up two hits each. Misenheimer slugged her first collegiate home run in game two. Richter was 4-4 in stolen base attempts.
Haleigh Boone and Bailey Wilcox picked up wins in the circle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 12, Virginia Union 3
Virginia Union would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as a double and a sac fly opened the scoring.
Chowan would take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second as Peyton Rockwell and Caston Garland drew a walk. Kaitlyn Matheny singled up the middle to plate a run before Kyra Helton scored a run on a RBI groundout.
The Panthers would load the bases in the top of the third inning and score two runs as a wild pitch hindered the Hawks, 3-2.
Kira Soodek picked up a single with two outs in the third to spark a rally. Serena Riley and Peyton Rockwell drew walks to load the bases before Caston Garland cleared the bases with a double to lead 5-3.
Chowan plated seven runs off two hits, five walks, and two hit-by-pitches to extend their lead to 12-3.
Game Two: Chowan 11, Virginia Union 2
Chowan would continue their momentum in the bottom of the first inning scoring seven runs off three hits and seven free passes. Lindsey Richter posted a two-RBI single to stretch the lead to 7-0.
VUU would get a run in the second inning as a throw went into the outfield before a base hit cut it to 7-1.
The Hawks used two hits and three walks in the bottom of the second to lead 10-1 as Mckenzie Misenheimer hit a three-run home run to left field.
Tessa Nicholson used a sacrifice bunt in the fourth inning to plate a run to lead 11-1.
Virginia Union plated a run in the fifth inning to trail 11-2 before a double play ended the contest.

Chowan hosts the Hawks Classic on Friday, February 24. The Hawks will take on New Haven (1pm) and Bowie State (3pm) before taking on Frostburg State on Sunday.
