MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team benefitted from a pair of errors to pick up a 4-0 victory against New Haven in the opening contest of the Hawks Softball Classic on Friday afternoon.

Haleigh Reid led the Hawks with two hits and a RBI in the contest. Mckenzie Misenheimer drew three walks. Serena Riley, Kyra Helton, and Tessa Nicholson collected one hit each.
Bailey Wilcox improved to 4-1 on the season with the complete game shutout picking up six strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Chowan broke the scoreless draw in the fourth inning as Peyton Rockwell and Caston Garland drew a walk. Kyra Helton would reach on an error as the Hawks would plate a run on the error to lead 1-0.
The Hawks would add on to the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as Tessa Nicholson drew a walk. Kyra Helton picked up an infield single and moved Nicholson over to third. Nicholson would come around to score on a passed ball. The throw back to get the runner would be wide allowing Helton to score. Mckenzie Misenheimer drew a walk and stole second before coming around to score on Haleigh Reid's double to left field to lead 4-0.
Bailey Wilcox finished off the seventh inning herself with a strikeout and a pair of groundouts to the circle.
