PEMBROKE, N.C. – Featuring the top two defenses in the Conference Carolinas, the Chowan Women's Basketball team was unable to overcome the foul count as the Hawks fell to regionally-ranked UNC Pembroke in league action on Wednesday evening.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Demetria Bland led the Hawks with 15 points and six rebounds. Aniah Patterson chipped in with 10 points. Jayah King-Johnson hauled in a career-high eight rebounds.
UNC Pembroke ranked eighth in the region, went 28-36 from the free throw line. The Braves also scored 22 points off 24 Chowan turnovers.
Chowan would go 13-23 from the free throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Keibra Hopkins opened the scoring with a layup following a pair of offensive rebounds. UNCP scored the next eight points before Tyaysia Sharpe connected from deep. Destiny Robinson added a pair from the stripe and hit a jumper to cut the deficit to 10-9.
Kashara Simpson knocked down a jumper along with a jumper by Demetria Bland to take the lead as the Hawks held UNCP scoreless for over five minutes. The Braves would pick up a pair from the stripe and a layup to end the draught to regain the lead 16-13.
Second Quarter:
UNC Pembroke would keep the Hawks scoreless over a five minute stretch moving into the second frame before Destiny Robinson notched a layup. Demetria Bland knocked down a triple to cut the deficit to 21-18. Tyaysia Sharpe connected from deep to keep pace with the Braves.
UNCP would pick up most of their points at the stripe before Aniah Patterson knocked down a jumper to close the gap to 26-23. The Braves extended their lead to seven before Demetria Bland connected from deep to head into the intermission with a 30-26 deficit.
Third Quarter:
Destiny Robinson started the scoring in the second half at the charity stripe. Demetria Bland went 1-2 from the line before Keibra Hopkins finished off the three-point play to even the score at 32-all. Jayah King-Johnson tallied a jumper as UNCP extended their lead to 40-34.
Demetria Bland connected from deep as the Braves pushed their advantage to 44-37. Yasmine Brown and Kashara Simpson went 1-2 from the line before Aniah Patterson tallied two points at the line as the Hawks trailed 48-41.
Fourth Quarter:
Imani Hickman collected a point at the stripe before Aniah Patterson knocked down a triple to cut the deficit to 48-45. Chowan would keep UNCP scoreless for three minutes before the Braves picked up points at the line.
UNCP added two from the line and connected from deep to push the advantage to double-digits, 55-45, with 4:55 remaining. Demetria Bland and Tyaysia Sharpe would pick up one point at the line. Aniah Patterson knocked down a triple to cut the deficit in half, 55-50, with 3:15 remaining.
The Braves continued to maintain their lead at the free throw line. Imani Hickman and Demetria Bland added a basket before the end of the contest.
