Chowan Rally Falls Short In One Goal Loss To Pioneers

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Lacrosse team rallied back but was unable to find the equalizer as the Hawks fell 18-17 to Tusculum in their home opener on Saturday.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Jaxon Martin led the Hawks with 10 points recording seven goals and three assists.  Erik Dozzi added a hat-trick with three goals and three assists.  Noah Jalal also collected a hat-trick.  Eric George tallied two goals and two assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Chowan jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Erik Dozzi found the back of the net off an assist from Jaxon Martin.  Martin would then find the back of the net off an assist from Harrison Buckman.

Tusculum would answer with a two-goal swing to even the score.  Harrison Buckman and Jaxon Martin would score unassisted goals before the Pioneers scored before the end of the frame, 4-3.

Second Quarter:

Eric George tallied a pair of goals in the frame to offset the Tusculum goals.  Jaxon Martin added a man-up goal as the Pioneers moved the score to 9-7.  Noah Jalal found the back of the net from an Erik Dozzi assist before Tusculum scored two goals to lead 11-8.

Ronaldo Williams and Noah Jalal scored unassisted to end the half to trail 11-10.

Third Quarter:

Erik Dozzi scored the lone goal in the frame for the Hawks off an assist from Eric George as the Pioneers stretched their lead to 15-11.

Fourth Quarter:

Alex Wildeboer found Jaxon Martin for a tally prior to a two-goal run by Tusculum.  Jaxon Martin and Noah Jalal scored to close the gap to 17-14.

Following a Tusculum score, Jaxon Martin scored a man-up and man-down goal off assists from Erik Dozzi.  Dozzi would then score off an assist by Alex Wildeboer with 1:34 remaining to cut the deficit to 18-17.

Rylan Downey had his shot saved in the final minute.

UP NEXT

Chowan hits the road to take on Shorter on Saturday, February 18.  Opening face-off is at 1pm.
