Hawks Struck By Lightning In Non-Conference Action

WILMINGTON, DEL. – The Chowan Baseball team dropped a non-conference decision on the road against Goldey-Beacom on Friday afternoon.

Aidan Feather and Caleb Karie posted two hits each.  Tyler West slugged his first home run of the season and added two RBI.  Warren Bailey collected two RBI as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Goldey-Beacom took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as an error allowed a run to score with two outs.

Chowan would knot the contest up in the top of the third inning as Caleb Karie singled up the middle before Tyler West hit a two-run shot to left center.

GBC answered with three runs in the fourth inning on four hits to lead 5-2.  Chowan rallied to pick up a run in the top of the fifth as Geomar Santana drew a walk and moved to third on a throwing error.  Santana would come around to score on Caleb Karie's RBI single to left center.

The Lightning would take advantage of two errors in the fifth to scratch across a run to lead 6-3.  The Hawks answered in the sixth as Carrington Williams reached on an error.  Aidan Feather sent Williams to third on a single to right before Williams scored on Warren Bailey's RBI groundout, 6-4.

GBC used four hits and two errors to plate six runs in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 12-4.  Chowan grabbed one back in the seventh as Geomar Santana scored on a ground ball.

GBC tacked on four runs in the seventh inning to lead 16-5.  Warren Bailey picked up a RBI double and a fielder's choice in the inning to close the gap to 16-7.

UP NEXT

Chowan continues their road trip as the Hawks take on nationally-ranked Millersville in a doubleheader on Saturday, February 11.  First pitch is slated for 11am.
