MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team was unable to get the roll down the stretch as the Hawks fought hard in a 62-60 loss to Francis Marion at home on Wednesday evening.

Aniah Patterson led the Hawks with 18 points, while Destiny Robinson and Keibra Hopkins collected double-doubles. Robinson posted 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Hopkins added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Chowan would shoot 19.0% in the first quarter before clawing back in the third quarter shooting 53.9%.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Keibra Hopkins notched the first basket for the Hawks in the contest as Francis Marion pushed out to an early 8-2 advantage. Destiny Robinson went 1-2 from the stripe before Aniah Patterson hit a layup. The Patriots pushed their lead to 13-5 as Robinson connected from the floor. Hopkins added a layup as the Hawks trailed 14-9 at the end of the opening frame.
Second Quarter:
Destiny Robinson connected on a pair of layups along with a 1-2 effort at the line by Jayah King-Johnson and Yasmine Brown made the score 21-15. Meara Carter scored the next four points along with a jumper by Keibra Hopkins cut the deficit to two, 23-21.
Yasmine Brown added a free throw and Aniah Patterson scored in transition following a steal. Destiny Robinson hit a jumper as Francis Marion led 29-26 at the intermission.
Third Quarter:
Francis Marion stretched their lead out to seven with a run to start the half as Aniah Patterson knocked a triple. Patterson connected from deep to spark a 10-0 run to take a 39-36 advantage with 6:17 remaining in the frame. Keibra Hopkins and Yasmine Brown hit a pair of jumpers before Patterson knocked down the three-pointer.
Demetria Bland added a pair from the stripe and Keibra Hopkins scored in transition to give the Hawks a 43-41 lead. FMU ended the quarter on a 7-2 run to lead 48-45.
Fourth Quarter:
Destiny Robinson tried to spark the offense with a putback layup before Imani Hickman added a layup before Robinson connected from the floor. Yasmine Brown hit a pair from the stripe and Robinson hit a jumper to knot the score at 55-all with 4:11 remaining.
Aniah Patterson would connect from the floor to offset the free throws by the Patriots. FMU would sink a pair from the line with 32 seconds remaining to lead 59-57. The Patriots added three more free throws to extend their lead to 62-57. Patterson knocked a three-pointer at the buzzer.
