EMORY, VA. – The Chowan Men's Basketball team held off Lenoir-Rhyne's late attack to pick up the season opening win of the season in the SAC/CC Conference Challenge hosted by Emory & Henry on Saturday evening.

RJ Wilson had a career-night with 25 points and 13 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Daylan Askew aided the attack with 22 points and five assists.
Preston Le Gassick and Skyler Davies chipped in with eight points each. Davies hauled in eight rebounds.
Chowan went on a 23-6 run over the final five minutes of the first half and into the second half to lead 46-33. Lenoir-Rhyne would answer with an 11-0 run to even the score at 49-all.
Lenoir-Rhyne was forced to foul with under a minute to play. The Bears would counter with three-pointers to keep the contest close. The Bears cut the deficit to 72-69 with 22.3 seconds remaining.
RJ Wilson would connect from the line for a pair with 4.8 seconds remaining to put the Hawks up 75-71. L-R went to the line for three free throws with 1.0 second remaining before going 1-3 on a last ditch effort.
The win marked the first season opening win since the 2020-21 season.
