TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Chowan Men's Basketball team held on to their double-digit lead to end their two game skid with a 79-64 win over North Greenville in Conference Carolinas action on Monday night.

Five Hawks scored in double-figures led by Christian Koonce with 14 points. Daylan Askew (13), Jay Estime (12), RJ Wilson (11), and Preston Le Gassick (10) scored in double-figures.
Chowan capitalized on points off turnovers (21-5) and second chance points (20-7).
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Jay Estime put the Hawks on the board with a jumper before Christian Koonce connected from deep to give the Hawks a 5-4 advantage early. Daylan Askew hit a triple along with a pair from the stripe by Veigar Alexandersson to keep the Hawks in front. RJ Wilson and Alexandersson connected from the floor to force a timeout, 14-9.
RJ Wilson continued the run with a layup as a three-pointer by Christian Koonce pushed the lead to double-figures. Veigar Alexandersson answered with a layup before Daylan Askew connected from deep, 24-12.
NGU rallied with a 7-0 run over the next three minutes before RJ Wilson ended the scoreless streak with a triple. Preston Le Gassick added a point at the stripe as NGU continued to chip away, 28-25. Christian Koonce connected from deep but the Crusaders would answer at the other end. Jay Estime found the stroke from deep before Isaac Hippolyte hit a jumper to push the lead to 36-30. Estime would connect again from deep following an offensive rebound by Koonce to give the Hawks a 39-30 advantage heading into the locker room.
Second Half:
Neither side found the bottom of the net until Christian Koonce went 1-2 from the line. Koonce hit a jumper for the first basket of the half nearly four minutes into the half. Daylan Askew finished off a three-point play to push the advantage to 45-30. Askew added a pair from the stripe along with a three-point play by Veigar Alexandersson to stretch the lead to 50-33.
Skyler Davies connected from the floor before Jay Estime hit a triple that forced a NGU timeout with 12:39 remaining. Davies tacked on a pair from the stripe along with Chieck Traore going 1-2 from the stripe, 58-39. Preston Le Gassick knocked down a triple as Isaac Hippolyte added a point from the charity stripe. RJ Wilson connected from the floor along with a pair from the free throw line to keep the lead 66-46.
Christian Koonce knocked down a jumper and Daylan Askew collected a layup as the scoring slowed down, 71-54. Preston Le Gassick hit a three-pointer before the Crusaders scored eight quick points. Oli Gestsson hit a putback jumper before Le Gassick hit a triple to finish off the contest, 79-64.
