Hawks Drop League Contest At Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. – The Chowan Men's Basketball team was unable to hold off the big runs by Emmanuel as the Lions handed the Hawks an 86-62 loss on the road in league play on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Christian Koonce led the Hawks with 17 points on 6-8 shooting.  Daylan Askew chipped in with 12 points and Jay Estime added 11.  Veigar Alexandersson contributed with seven points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Jay Estime started the scoring with a pull-up jumper.  Emmanuel countered with a 13-2 run as Christian Koonce connected from just inside the arc.  The Hawks would go scoreless for nearly five minutes until Estime knocked down a triple in transition to cut the deficit to 13-7.  Koonce added a three-pointer, a pull-up, and a layup to keep pace with the Lions, 20-18.

Daylan Askew would collect a pair of driving layups.  Jay Estime connected from deep before Emmanuel pushed their lead to double figures.  RJ Wilson posted a layup as Christian Koonce and Isaac Hippolyte added one point each.  Hippolyte would add a pair from the stripe to cut the deficit to 38-31 with just under two minutes to go in the half.

Preston Le Gassick hit a driving layup before going into the half trailing 42-33.

Second Half:

Jay Estime and Christian Koonce connected from deep as Emmanuel continued to maintain a double-digit lead.  Koonce added a pair from the stripe before the Lions went on a 17-2 run to grab hold of the contest.  Veigar Alexandersson notched a layup during the offensive stall.

Daylan Askew hit a three-pointer along with a jumper by Veigar Alexandersson and another triple by Askew to cut into the deficit, 70-51.  The Lions countered with a 14-3 run as Paul Whitby connected from deep.  Preston Le Gassick ended the run with a triple.

Oli Gestsson posted a layup and Veigar Alexandersson hit a triple to end the contest for the Hawks as the Lions used big runs throughout the half to hold on for the win.

UP NEXT

Chowan returns home to take on Francis Marion in a Conference Carolinas contest on Wednesday, February 1.  Tip-off is slated for 7pm.
